Inspired by the story of desperate migrants who traveled across the Mediterranean sea, Ghanaian artist Samuel Ashong uses the batik method to paint this touching composition, diligently applying a wax resist to cotton calico before adding colorful dyes. A line of migrants stretches towards the horizon beneath a red-orange sunset, carrying their belongings and loves ones along with them. This batik painting is named “Exodus,” inspired by the biblical story. Says the artist, “I advise the youth to stay in their various countries to contribute to their development.”
